Dems send message to violent supporters: Who will rid us of this meddlesome Trump?

The second assassination attempt on Donald Trump offers a glimpse into the deep and widespread animosity he inspires. The son of the would-be assassin candidly remarked, “My father hates Trump like every reasonable person does.” But who are these “reasonable” haters?

Let’s start with President Joe Biden, who has not been shy in labeling Trump a threat to democracy. Biden has repeatedly characterized Trump and his movement as dangerous, describing them as "semi-fascist" and a threat to the nation’s democratic foundations. For those who agree with Biden’s assessment, Trump is more than just a political opponent; he's a figure to be loathed.

Vice President Kamala Harris echoes this sentiment, having called Trump a danger to national security and the architect of what she believes to be the worst attack on democracy since the Civil War. For Harris and many Democrats, Trump represents an existential threat to the country, evoking comparisons to some of the darkest moments in U.S. history.

Prominent Democratic figures like David Plouffe, the mastermind behind Barack Obama's campaign, and Congressman Dan Goldman of New York have openly expressed a desire not only to defeat Trump politically but to completely dismantle his influence. Hillary Clinton famously coined the term "deplorables" to describe Trump supporters, and more recently, warned that a Trump victory could mean the "end of our country as we know it."

The media plays a pivotal role in amplifying this disdain. Outlets like The New York Times and The Economist regularly highlight the dangers they believe Trump poses, with headlines portraying him as an authoritarian figure. This portrayal has led to comparisons with historical dictators, with some magazine covers even depicting Trump with a Hitler-like mustache. The fear and hatred of Trump seem to eclipse concerns about other pressing global issues.

Hollywood has also joined the chorus of Trump criticism, with celebrities like Robert De Niro and Jennifer Lawrence expressing their disdain. De Niro has called Trump a “jerk” and a “clown,” while Lawrence once declared that Trump’s presidency would signal the "end of the world."

Despite two assassination attempts and multiple indictments, Trump remains resilient. The real question now isn’t just political—it’s existential. Given the overwhelming animosity from powerful individuals and institutions, how has Trump managed to survive?
