CBS stated that her response during the 60 Minutes segment was more concise, thereby permitting the inclusion of additional topics within the extensive 21-minute duration.

**CBS Responds to Editing Controversy Surrounding Kamala Harris' '60 Minutes' Interview**

CBS has acknowledged that an edited segment of Vice President Kamala Harris’ interview on '60 Minutes' was made “more succinct,” amid allegations of bias from Donald Trump and his supporters.

The network faced scrutiny after Trump accused CBS of deliberately manipulating the interview footage to portray Harris as more competent. In a preview aired the day before the full interview, Harris delivered an extended and seemingly disjointed response to a question about Israel, which some critics labeled a "word salad." However, in the actual interview, her response was significantly shorter and more focused.

In response to Trump's accusations, CBS released a statement on Sunday, labeling his claims as “false.” The network highlighted that a longer portion of Harris' answer was shared on 'Face the Nation,' indicating that the editing choice for '60 Minutes' aimed for clarity and conciseness to cover a broader range of topics in the 21-minute segment.

"Former President Donald Trump is accusing '60 Minutes' of deceitful editing of our Oct. 7 interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. That is false," the statement asserted. "When we edit any interview, whether a politician, athlete, or movie star, we strive to be clear, accurate, and on point."

Trump further escalated the situation by threatening to subpoena CBS's records to uncover details about the editing process. He contended that the network replaced a lengthy answer with a much shorter one that did not make sense, reiterating his calls for CBS to have its broadcast license revoked.

After CBS's defense, a Trump campaign spokesperson claimed that the network's admission confirmed the very allegations made by Trump, describing CBS as “hopelessly biased.”

The controversy began when an excerpt aired before the full interview, showing Harris discussing the U.S. role in prompting movements in Israel: "The work that we have done has resulted in some movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by... our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region." In the actual segment, her response was more concise: "We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end."

Traditionally, presidential candidates have participated in '60 Minutes' interviews before elections, but Trump allegedly withdrew from a planned interview due to concerns about live fact-checking. Following the controversy, CBS renewed its invitation for Trump to join the program: “Our long-standing invitation to former President Trump remains open. If he would like to discuss the issues facing the nation and the Harris interview, we would be happy to have him on '60 Minutes.'”

The scandal intensified after reports emerged that CBS's CEO, Wendy McMahon, donated over $6,000 to Biden's campaign and Democratic fundraising efforts in 2020. Although CBS News employees are prohibited from donating to political campaigns to avoid perceived bias, these donations occurred before McMahon joined the network. It was also clarified that she was not directly involved in the editing of Harris's interview.
