President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported on Saturday that Russian forces attempted to dislodge Ukrainian troops from positions in the Kursk border region of Russia, but Ukrainian forces managed to maintain their defensive lines. In his nightly video address, Zelenskiy stated, "Regarding the Kursk operation, Russia tried to push back our positions, but we are holding the designated lines."
On the previous day, Russia's defense ministry claimed that its forces had reclaimed two villages in the Kursk region, which had been the target of a significant Ukrainian incursion in August. Zelenskiy acknowledged that the Ukrainian offensive into Kursk was strategically aimed at diverting Russian troops from the eastern frontline, where Russian forces have been steadily gaining ground in recent months.
In his address, Zelenskiy also discussed the challenging conditions in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, where parts remain under Russian control. He emphasized the "very difficult conditions" caused by intense enemy actions and underscored the importance of resilience among Ukrainian units, stating, "Everything depends on our resilience."
Russia’s defense ministry further reported the capture of Ostrivske, a village located near a reservoir close to the town of Kurakhove, which is a significant target in their advance through the Donetsk region. While Ukraine has not officially confirmed the loss of Ostrivske, military bloggers have noted that Russian forces have made advances in the area.
Tragically, prosecutors in the Donetsk region reported on Saturday that two civilians were killed due to Russian strikes on villages near Kurakhove. The General Staff of Ukraine's military released a late evening report detailing 47 clashes in the vicinity of Kurakhove and an additional 27 confrontations in the Pokrovsk sector to the northwest.
Further northeast in Toretsk, both Ukrainian and Russian sources indicate that the area has seen partial occupation by Russian forces. The General Staff noted that Russian troops launched 14 assaults in this area, supported by air strikes. The ongoing conflict continues to pose significant challenges for Ukrainian forces, with both sides experiencing heavy combat as the situation remains fluid and dynamic.
