President-elect Donald Trump has announced the creation of a new position in his administration: White House Artificial Intelligence and Crypto Czar. The role will be filled by tech entrepreneur and podcast host David Sacks.
In his announcement, Trump stated, "David will guide policy in Artificial Intelligence and Cryptocurrency, two critical areas for America's global competitiveness. His focus will be on making America the undisputed leader in both fields." He added, "David will safeguard free speech online, combat Big Tech bias and censorship, and work on a legal framework that will provide the clarity the crypto industry needs to thrive in the U.S."
Additionally, Sacks will lead the Presidential Council of Advisors for Science and Technology.
Sacks, a longtime ally of Elon Musk, is an investor in SpaceX and co-founder of PayPal, where he also served as COO. He and Musk worked together at PayPal before the company rebranded in 2000. Sacks was a major fundraiser for the Trump-Vance campaign, including hosting an event at his San Francisco home for Trump in June.
Earlier this year, Trump appeared on Sacks' "All In" podcast, where he expressed support for granting green cards to noncitizens graduating from U.S. colleges, advocating for a system where a green card would be automatically awarded with a diploma.
He responded to a question from host Jason Calacanis, who asked about the ability to bring the world's top talent to America, saying, "I think if you graduate from a college, you should get a green card automatically as part of your diploma, including from junior colleges."
