The Ukrainian military has unveiled its latest weapon, a hybrid between a drone and a missile, designed to bolster its defense against Russian forces. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday via Facebook that the new long-range missile drone, named "Palianytsia," was successfully deployed for the first time.
This innovative weapon took over a year and a half to develop and is intended to target strategic locations, such as airfields from which Russian warplanes and bombers launch attacks on Ukraine.
Zelensky emphasized that the Palianytsia is a domestically designed weapon aimed at neutralizing the offensive capabilities of the enemy. Although he did not specify where the weapon had been deployed, military analysts believe it may have been used in a recent strike on an ammunition depot in Russia's Voronezh region.
The exact range of the Palianytsia remains undisclosed, as Zelensky chose not to reveal this detail. However, he assured that production of the missile drone would be increased soon.
The introduction of the Palianytsia represents a significant advancement in Ukraine's defense technology, providing a new means to counteract Russian military operations. As the conflict continues, this weapon could play a crucial role in Ukraine's strategy to undermine Russian military infrastructure and reduce the threat of aerial attacks on Ukrainian territory.
The development and deployment of such a weapon highlight Ukraine's ongoing efforts to innovate and strengthen its military capabilities amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
